Recall Alert: Children’s Dishes Pose Choking Hazard

Oct. 5, 2017 -- Parents and grandparents, check your kitchen cabinets: Playtex has recalled its Toddler Mealtime dishes and dish sets for kids.

These plates and bowls were on the market for nearly 8 years, so even if you don’t recognize the packaging, check the back of your kids’ dinnerware. You might have picked them up secondhand at a garage or consignment sale.

The plates have a plastic layer over the graphics that can peel off. Four kids have choked on the plastic after it has gotten into their mouths, the company said. There have been 11 more reports of parents finding the loose plastic in a child’s mouth. The company says it has also received hundreds of other complaints about the plastic on the dishes bubbling or peeling.

The dishes were sold with various scenes like cars, construction equipment, giraffes, princesses, and superheroes. The plates and bowls were marketed separately and together in sets. They were at stores across the U.S., including Babies “R” Us, Target, Walmart, and Amazon.com. They were on store shelves between October 2009 and August 2017.

If you have one of these plates or bowls, stop using them and keep it away from young children. Contact Playtex for a full refund. Its toll-free number is 888-220-2075.
