I started taking BCAAs as a supplement to my regular recovery drink. For the last 3 months I have been using it with preworkout-midworkout with improved results. The biggest result is less soreness, if I consume enough I can work longer and with more accuracy/concentration. The cost is less than protein drinks, and the results are better.

I've used this two days and it seems that when it gets fully absorbed into my system and hits my liver it causs my blood pressure to rise and increased heart rate. Because I had a gastric bypass 20 years ago I may be absorbing this more quickly than intended (even at half the recommended dose), but a study a couple of years back ties leucine to cardiovascular problems so it doesn't seem to be an isolated incident. This happened again this morning as I was wearing a heart rate monitor between workouts and it was easy to see the reaction. It passed after about 10 minutes but certainly doesn't help my workout when that happens. Another unexpected effect was that it killed my exercise "high"- that feel-good feeling that comes after a good workout. I was curious about this and it seems one of the bcaas (leucine) also blocks serotonin. Blocking serotonin keeps you from feeling fatigue but also blocks the workout high. This seems like a good idea but it seems it's not for everyone. I used a brand named AKTV, in the watermelon flavor. First use was with the full recommended scoop, second use was half a scoop.

Saw reference to BCAA's in treatment of Sarcopenia - muscle wasting in elderly. After 2 months of 4gms in water have seen a significant improvement.

I developed severe whole body aching, feeling as if I would 'break'. Appeared to take 5 days before symptoms to begin to subside.
