Hmmm Policosanol has been proven incredibly effective at lowering cholesterol. Study after study (double blind peer reviewed) conducted by both the US government and dozens of research centers going back MORE THAN A DOZEN YEARS have definitively proven its effectiveness as well as its lack of negative side effects. So why is WebMD still claiming there is no evidence proving the effectiveness of...

Caution: Side effect may be severe muscle problems. This may be a dangerous drug for you. If you have muscle problems stop taking it and use CoQ10 every day, 600mg. for at least six weeks. Then 300mg per day might be enough. Stop Policosanol FOR EVER. Report it to your doctor.

Having had hypertension since my teens and with a family history of heart dis., I elected to have a 64 slice CT scan which showed plaque in 2 arteries even though my HDL was 100, LDL 135 and Triglycerides 77. I agreed to take Simvastatin, which lowered my HDL to 87, LDL to 80 and Triglycerides to 57. Then after 5 mo., I was hospitalized for chest pain. It was determined to be from the statin. I then began 10 mg Policosanol (label by local health food store). After 3 mo, my HDL remained 87, Triglycerides fell to 45. After another 3 mo., LDL had risen to 100. I've increased Policosanol 5mg., but am considering upping it for a total of 20mg daily. I also take 25mcg Levothyroxine for Hypothyroidism and Betopic S eye drops after having had a stroke in one eye in my forties. I am now 67. My dad who was epileptic died of a massive stroke (hemorr) at age 35. His dad died after his 2nd heart attack at 68. My mother died of a cardiac arrest at 85. During my CT scan, I was found to have severe Bronchiectasis. I've never smoked or been overweigh. I exercise 2 days/wk at Pulmonary Rehab and walk a minimum of 2-3 miles almost every day at a speed of 3.8. I also take quite a few whole food supplements from Standard Process, some of which include: Cardio Plus and Pneumoniatrophin for my lungs. (I am a nutritionist) AnnetteRead More Read Less
