Have been having terrible hot flashes for more than four months. They occur three or four times an hour throughout the day, and then on into the night making getting a good night's sleep almost impossible. I tried both magnesium and sage, both touted as remedies for hot flashes, neither did anything at all. But within 4 days of me trying Black Cohosh, my hot flashes began to lessen. Within 2 weeks...

After refusing HRT, I decided to try black cohosh to reduce hot flashes (having one every hour). Within two days, the flashes just stopped along with the night sweats. I began to sleep through the night again. Vaginal dryness issues completely resolved. I took one pill in the a.m. and one in the p.m. although the directions said to take up to three pills daily. I cut back to one pill daily and still receive the same benefits. It's a miracle herb for me, I think. My husband is very happy again... Yes, indeed I am. (Happy Spouse)Read More Read Less

I found myself unable to sleep due to anxiety. During the day I also experienced the same anxiety. I did not relate these feelings to the black cohash until about a week went by. I stopped taking it and the feelings went away.

I started taking black cohosh for hot flashes. Yes, it started working for me. After 7 days I broke out in hives around my waist, my hands started itching and swelling. I went to the hospital (it was late at night). The doctor said that I was having a allergeic reaction to something. He gave me a steioid shot, and a RX. for hydroxyzine for itching. Not knowing the next day, I continued taking black cohosh. The following day the hives started again. This time on my arm. So I went to my family doctor, who also advised me of an allergic reactions to something, and gave me an RX. for for steriod tablets.(which I couldn't pick up until the next day). When I got home from the doctor's office I took black cohosh again. Later that evening my hands started swelling to the point I had to take off my rings, I started feeling nauseated, and my lips started to swell. I went to urgent care. They gave me another shot of steriod. When I woke up the next day my hands were still swollen. Thats when I decided to look up the side affects of Black Cohose because it was the only thing different I was taking. After reading some of the reviews on webmd, I do beleive I have diagnosed my own condition. NO more Black Cohosh for me...I'll deal with the hot flashes. Read More Read Less

This herb changed my life when I began having perimenopause symptoms and I still take it today. When I first began taking it, I was having two periods a month. I had a few anxiety attacks and had lost interest in sex. I also was having hot flashes. Within two weeks after I began taking black cohosh (540 mg twice a day), I felt like a new woman. My periods became normal, I had no more anxiety spells, and my sex drive returned. There have been no bad side-effects. I started taking this herb when I was about 44. I gradually stopped having periods at age 49. Now the only menopause symptom I have is an occasional hot flash if I get overheated. Please don't get a weakened formula with other herbs or fillers, Just take the CVS brand (it is standardized), one in the a.m. and one at night. I buy it when it is buy one,get one free. The regular price is only $4.99 for 100 capsules. Good luck to you!Read More Read Less

I started taking this for EXTREMELY heavy period that lasted 3+ WEEKS... it was not normal. I took one pill of 540mg and by that evening my period had slowed to a trickle, from filling a super pad every 2 hrs and huge dollar size clots. I took one more pill that night and by the end of that evening my period had pretty much disappeared. I am very sensitive to medications so I stopped taking it once it took care of my symptoms. I now just take it as needed. NOT on a daily basis. I hope this helps Read More Read Less

What I'm taking is not in the product list. No period for 1 year, definitely menopause. Perimeno was filled with night sweats, hot flushes and mood swings. I eat barely any processed foods and tried yams and tofu to boost my diet with respect to the symptoms. I drink no alcohol, 2 cups strong coffee daily. When having a hot flush, I followed some blessed woman's advice and out an ice pack on the back of my neck. A Godsend if that's available out of home. In June 2011, after suffering this for 4.5 years, I discovered Menolieve at Boots in the UK. 6.5 mg, once daily around 3pm. What a difference! My flushes are reduced to 2 mins instead of the usual 10, occurrences have reduced by 75%, I don't feel like a furnace, and the night sweats are nearly gone. Mood swings? Gone. With respect to headaches, ab cramps, etc., felt by others, perhaps the dosage is too high. I started small enough such that if I couldn't rid the flushes completely, I could double up for a week and see how that went. I do notice more sweating during but I'll take that tradeoff any day given how quickly it dissipates. All in all, I'm grateful I stepped out of my comfort zone of no drugs, no herbs, not even an aspirin and gave this a try. Read More Read Less

Wanting to avoid HRT, I first started taking an OTC menopause med containing a little soy and BC. It did not work at all. CHanged to 540 mg of BC daily. It works somewhat. I was having TERRIBLE hot flashes that cycled about every 15 minutes, 24-7. I now go for days without one and then will have 3-5 per day. THey don't last long. I have noticed some swelling in my fingers, vision changes, and fuzzy thinking, but that could all be simply menopause related and not necessarily directly related to the BC.Read More Read Less

I was surprised at how well black cohosh worked. When I stopped taking it for 2 months, the symptoms returned and I started back taking it.

I started using bc because of sweating and it really helped to stop the sweating. The drawback is that my breast swell, were sore and tender and I developed large cysts in them. I had to stop taking it; now what do I do for the sweating?

I am a 20 years old, and I have been taking black cohosh for almost 3 years to treat the severe cramps and back pain that I experience with my menstrual cycle. When I read about black cohosh in my grandmother's herbology books, I had no idea it was used for menopause. I went to buy a supply of it, and was then informed of the menopausal uses. I bought it and used it anyway, and it was the best decision I ever made! An added bonus is that it helps with my mood swings. I am clinically depressed, and during PMS, this is exasperated, so finding out that the cohosh evened out my moods was a HUGE relief. I always keep a supply on hand, because I don't think I could go a month without it.Read More Read Less

Have been taking black cohosh for a few months now for hot flashes. Works wonders for flashes and night sweats. Down side is I've gained weight now due to increased appetite and am experiencing headaches and some mild nauseau. Also having light headedness and dizziness. Not sure if it's worth side affects.

after just 3 doses of this, my thinking deteriorated--I had thoughts of stabbing myself in the gut, killing our pets. I have never had thoughts like that before nor since and believe the bc was responsible. It lasted about 2 1/2 hours. I sat in a dark room until it passed. The scariest part, to me, is that there is no place to report an adverse reaction like this!

I take the black cohosh root extract 135 mg and 40 mg. capsul. I started with 2 but have been taking 1 at night for "sweats". 1 works well. I'm on my second menopause. I took estrogen for a decade and went off of it 6 months ago. This one capsule works well for me.
