Have been having terrible hot flashes for more than four months. They occur three or four times an hour throughout the day, and then on into the night making getting a good night's sleep almost impossible. I tried both magnesium and sage, both touted as remedies for hot flashes, neither did anything at all. But within 4 days of me trying Black Cohosh, my hot flashes began to lessen. Within 2 weeks...

Really horrible night sweats [worse than hot flashes during the day every night 6 - 8 times] which have lessened in intensity and duration, but still continue to disrupt sleep too much after 9 weeks of standardized BlackCohosh 545mg, so this might be not so effective for me. I started with one capsule per day for 1 week, increased to 2 per day, and after about 10 days I started to feel lightheaded, so I went back to one per day with no side effect but no further reduction in the night sweats. I have used 16oz or more soymilk everyday for over 4 years. I take daily supplements [virtually the same as those recommended through WomanToWoman site]. I have rx from MD HRT estrogens and progesterone but I haven't filled the rx -- yet. I've gotten some relief from acupuncture also. I'm not sure what to try next. Managing these symptoms is a HUGE challenge. No one thing works for everyone. Read More Read Less

I started taking blk. cohosh 6 months ago to help with hot flashes and mood swings. I take it 1x in the morning and 1x before bed. Whether it's a placebo effect or not, it has really helped to greatly reduce my symptoms. I have forgotten to take it a couple of times, and by evening/morning, remember because the symptoms return. It works for me!

I had terrible hot flashes, frequently throughout the day, night sweats and foggy thinking. I was miserable. I already eat healthy, exercise, don't smoke and have a glass of wine about 3 times per week. An over the counter pill with black cohosh, soy and vitamins taken once a day relieves all of my symptoms. I'm sleeping better, thinking more clearly and have only mild hot flashes and just a few of those.

I had as hysterectomy when I was 26. I'll be 60 next year. I started having regular migraines when I was in my early 30's from HRT. (Didn't know the hormone replacement therapy was causing the migraines until I went off HRT and suddenly the migraines went away, but then the hot flashes consumed me about a year ago. I started Black Cohosh about a month ago, 1 pill 540 mg in the AM and it nearly took away 99% of my hot flashes. I have noticed however, I've been waking up with headaches that are borderline migraines that hang around most of the day. My stomach feels fine and I have been a member of Weight Watchers so I am accountable for my weight. I've noticed no difference in that. Perhaps if I take this supplement every other day the headaches will subside. I'll give that a try. Still, to sleep through the night without soaking the bed in perspiration is wonderful. I take no other medications except for daily vitamins. I'm basically healthy. No lightheadedness. I'm active in my community theater group and work full time and have had no problems with memory. Hang in there girls! Remember, we are the superior species! :)Read More Read Less

I have been using Black Cohosh for about a month and a half for the Flashes. The flashes have decreased but now I am experiencing Light headedness, dizziness, Headaches, being forgetful and day & night jitters. I never experience these symptoms previous to using this product so I am going to stop taking Black Cohosh.

I have been taking black cohosh for a month now and while it does relieve the hot flashes, still have a few a day, I have gained ten pounds (in 1 Month). So what do I do now? I shouldn't have to gain weight just to get relief from hot flashes! I would rather suffer with hot flashes than keep gaining weight. I'll try another brand but if it does the same thing I'll give it up. BTW my sister is a nurse and she suggested I try it, seems to work for her.

Black Cohash did work for me....but the weight gain after about 6 months was to much for me. I went from about 1-2 hotflashes every hour to about 2-3 a day. I also went from a size 6-8 to a 12-14 in that time period. Nothing else changed, I still eat the same, exercised almost daily. I stopped taking it and 3 weeks later I am back to my regular weight.

I have taken black cohosh for 4 months and it worked almost immediately to lessen the frequency and duration of hot flashes/night sweats. However, it has made me experience lightheadedness and a couple of dizzy spells that resulted in blacking out. My pharmacist thinks this may be an interaction with blood pressure medication (Diovan). Since stopping the black cohosh, the dizziness has dramatically decreased, but the night sweats are back with a vengence.

Hoping for general hormone balancing, but ended up having light spotting EVERY time I took it.
