Psoriasis is often thought of as a disease limited to the skin, but it can impact your body in many other ways – including emotionally. In fact, mood and anxiety disorders are common in people who have psoriasis. Recognizing symptoms of those and other mental health issues is an important part of psoriasis treatment. Vanessa J. Cutler, MD, is board-certified in adult psychiatry, as well as child and adolescent psychiatry. She’s an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at NYU Langone. Her research interests focus on the intersection between psychiatry and dermatology. She’s an active expert contributor to the National Psoriasis Foundation and health care startups, and sits on advisory boards for major skin care brands. She maintains a private practice in New York City, where she treats people of all ages.
