cyclizine oral Warnings
cyclizine oral Uses
Cyclizine is used to prevent or treat nausea, vomiting, and dizziness caused by motion sickness. It may also be used to reduce lightheadedness, dizziness, and loss of balance (vertigo) caused by diseases that affect the inner ear. This medication works on the area of the brain that controls nausea and vomiting and on the inner ear to decrease these symptoms. Cyclizine belongs to a class of drugs known as antihistamines.
Check the ingredients on the label even if you have used the product before. The manufacturer may have changed the ingredients. Also, products with similar names may contain different ingredients meant for different purposes. Taking the wrong product could harm you.How to use cyclizine oral
If you are taking the over-the-counter product to self-treat, read all directions on the product package before taking this medication. If you have any questions, consult your pharmacist. If your doctor has prescribed this medication, take it by mouth as directed.
The dosage is based on your age, medical condition, and response to treatment. To prevent motion sickness, take a dose of cyclizine about 30 minutes before starting an activity such as traveling. Adults and children 12 years old and over should not take more than 200 milligrams in 24 hours. Children 6 years to under 12 years old should not take more than 75 milligrams in 24 hours. Children under 6 years old should not take this medication unless directed by the doctor. Do not increase your dose or use this drug more often or for longer than prescribed. Your condition will not improve any faster, and your risk of side effects will increase.
If your condition persists or worsens, or if you think you may have a serious medical problem, get medical help right away.
cyclizine oral Side Effects
Drowsiness, dry mouth, tiredness, or blurred vision may occur. Some people, especially children, may experience unusual excitement rather than drowsiness. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
To relieve dry mouth, suck (sugarless) hard candy or ice chips, chew (sugarless) gum, drink water, or use a saliva substitute.
If your doctor has directed you to use this medication, remember that he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.
Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including: eye pain/redness, vision changes (such as decreased vision, seeing halos around objects), severe headache, ringing in the ears, decreased/painful urination, seizures.
