Q and A With Avril Lavigne
The singer-songwriter talks about her music, her healthy habits, and her efforts to help those with multiple sclerosis.
I stay active by Rollerblading, skateboarding, surfing, snowboarding -- not really working out but a great way to stay in shape and have fun with friends and family.
What's your best health habit?
I like to cook vegan.
What's your worst?
Do you cook or order in most nights?
I love to cook, whether at home making Italian or creative salads, or on the road making dinner for the band. I recently made pea soup on tour using my Crock-Pot!
Do you have a personal health philosophy?
I enjoy life but in moderation. I would never criticize someone for their health choices, but I choose to live as healthy as possible.
What disease or condition would you most like to see eradicated in your lifetime, and why?
Cancer. Cancer comes in so many forms and has such a high rate of mortality. Just an awful disease that continues to cause so many deaths.
When do you find yourself reaching for your guitar to write a new song: when you're happy or when you're sad? Why?
Inspiration for songs can come in many forms, either something I am personally experiencing or something those closest to me are going through. I write songs all the time and don't really have a pattern of timing; just when the moment hits me.
When it comes to being creative, are you a morning person or a night person?
Like most musicians, I am very much a night person. Especially when I am on the road, after a show I tend to be up for hours, just amped by the crowd.
What music do you listen to when you work out? Can you give us a sneak peek at your playlist?
I tend to listen to a wide variety of music depending on the mood. Sometimes I like jazz. Other times it's Coldplay or Sinatra. I listen to a lot of Rat Pack music.
