What should I Know Regarding Pregnancy, Nursing and Administering Haldol Ampul to Children or the Elderly?
If you are PREGNANT
- Known or Theoretical Risk:
If you are NURSING
- Precaution: FOR MONOTHERAPY,FEW DATA SUGGEST LOW LEVELS EXCRETED W/NO KNOWN INFANT ADV FX
If you are an adult over 60
- management or monitoring precaution: Neuro/Psych-Highest risk of death amongst antipsychotics in senile dementia patients. Higher risk of tardive dyskinesia in the elderly. Anticholinergic effects may cause sedation, worsen cognitive impairment and increase fall risk. Maximum of 2mg/day. Cardiovascular-May cause orthostatic hypotension at higher doses. Gastrointestinal-May cause or worsen pre-existing constipation. Genitourinary-Best avoided in patients with urinary retention from any cause.
Giving Haldol Ampul to a child under 12
- Severe Precaution: Risk of lowered seizure threshold, extrapyramidal effects, ECG changes. Safety and efficacy not established.
