  • management or monitoring precaution: Renal-Reduced clearance results in 30-60% higher plasma levels. Titrate dose slowly. Start at one-half the usual starting dose for CrCL< 30mL/minute. Neuro/Psych-Can cause significant cognitive impairment, somnolence and gait disturbances that may increase fall risk. Metabolic-Clinically significant hyponatremia occurs more frequently during the first 3 months of treatment. Monitor serum sodium.
  • Pediatric use

  • Severe Precaution: Not indicated in pediatrics under age 6 years. Dose form inappropriate for young children.
  • Severe Precaution: Risk of seizure aggravation seen with immediate release formulation.
  • Severe Precaution: Rare risk of seizure aggravation.
  • Severe Precaution: Increased incidence of infection in younger children. No established efficacy and not indicated age < 2 years.
