An adult over 60:
management or monitoring precaution: Renal-Reduced clearance results in 30-60% higher plasma levels. Titrate dose slowly. Start at one-half the usual starting dose for CrCL< 30mL/minute. Neuro/Psych-Can cause significant cognitive impairment, somnolence and gait disturbances that may increase fall risk. Metabolic-Clinically significant hyponatremia occurs more frequently during the first 3 months of treatment. Monitor serum sodium.
Giving Trileptal Suspension, (Final Dose Form) to a child under 12:
management or monitoring precaution: Rare risk of seizure aggravation.
Severe Precaution: Increased incidence of infection in younger children. No established efficacy and not indicated age < 2 years.
