What should I Know Regarding Pregnancy, Nursing and Administering Megestrol ACETATE to Children or the Elderly?

If you are pregnant

  • Not Recommended:

    • If you are nursing

  • Precaution: POTENTIAL FOR ADVERSE EFFECT ON INFANT, MFR DOES NOT RECOMMEND

    • If you are an adult over 60

  • management or monitoring precaution: Cardiovascular-Avoid use in the elderly. Increased thrombotic event risk. Renal-Primarily renally excreted which may further increase ADR risks in elderly. General- Little evidence to support use for weight gain. May induce vaginal bleeding in females.
  • management or monitoring precaution: Cardiovascular-Increased risk of thrombosis. Caution with history of thromboembolism. Renal-ADR risk may be increased due to reduced renal function. General- May induce hot flashes.

    • Pediatric use

  • Severe Precaution: Risk of adrenal insufficiency with chronic use. Safety and efficacy not established.
