If you suffer from migraine headaches, you know they can really interfere with your daily life. Some foods are known to be common headache triggers. Every individual responds differently to various foods, so some experts recommend trying an elimination diet, coupled with a food journal, to help isolate potential problems.

Start by eliminating these foods from your diet. Chocolate, dairy, eggs, processed meats, wheat, soy, nuts and peanuts, tomatoes, onions, corn, apples, bananas, citrus fruits, vinegar, pickled or fermented foods, alcoholic beverages, caffeinated drinks, and anything containing MSG, monosodium glutamate, aspartame, or nitrates.

Avoid these common triggers for at least 30 days. If your symptoms improve, you can add foods back into your diet one-by-one, keeping a daily food journal, to know which ones cause symptoms to reappear. Make sure you check with your doctor before making any changes to your diet.
