Travel is fun and exciting, and multiple sclerosis (MS) doesn't have to change that. If you have MS, you can still take trips and enjoy vacations. With a little advanced planning, you'll be able to navigate nearly any travel situation with MS.
Before you head out on the trip of a lifetime, follow a few basic travel tips:
- Call ahead to arrange assistance in airports and train stations.
- Arrange accommodations with your airline or Amtrak when you purchase tickets and confirm everything the day before.
- Call your hotel the day before you arrive to make sure they have arranged the accommodations you need.
- Research restaurants that can accommodate any dietary needs you have.
- Bring a note from your doctor, including their contact information, in case of emergency.
- Bring comfortable clothes and shoes as well as any mobility aids.
- Don't over-plan: give yourself rest breaks, so you don't get too fatigued.
The most important travel tip of all is to have fun!
