What are the side effects of biologics that treat RA?

ANSWER

The most common side effect is pain and a rash at the injection site. Since biologics given by infusion (in the vein) can cause an allergic infusion reaction. Symptoms of those reactions include:

As with any drugs that suppress the immune system, biologic therapy raises chances of infections and other diseases. Get immediate medical attention if you get persistent fever or unexplained symptoms.

Biologics may also cause some chronic diseases that are dormant (such as tuberculosis) to flare up. They aren't recommended for people with multiple sclerosis and other conditions such as severe congestive heart failure.
