Distinguishing digestive reflux conditions. Because the symptoms for over and under acid are similar. It would be helpful for both MDs and sufferers to define the differences. 1. Both conditions cause reflux. Clearly high acid reflux will be acidic and cause damage to the oesophagus. The low acid condition will have low acidity. This low acid level has never caused any oesophagus damage for me. ... Show Full Comment

I have been taking Betain HCL with Pepsin for over twenty years following diagnosis of low stomach acid with overgrowth. Appears to have been initiated by 18 months of Zantac following duodenal ulcer. After 18 months the symptoms appeared possibly aided by drinking water contaminated with sewage. Found to be very effective in the digestion of proteins, notably red meat. Dose rate varies with size ... Show Full Comment

Over 20 years ago i was treated for acid reflux the medication given (Nexium) was just out and worked by shutting down the acid production in my stomach. But on researching Nexium on its own sight learned that there is valve in the esophagus that only shuts down stomach acid from moving up the esophagus when it is too high but in my case la ... I used Betaine HCL for my condition that Doctors could not help me with. My Doctors kept putting me on a few meds that only made my heartburn, chest pain and acid reflex condition worse.(they called my condition all of those) I took Betaine HCL for a short time and it actually cured me of that condition.

I am eighty-two years of age and a short time ago I began to suffer with acid reflux after meals, mainly in the evening. I did some research on the Net and came across Betaine HCI. I take only half of a 650 milligram tablet with my meals (after a couple of mouthfuls) and the results have been astonishing. I would not hesitate to recommend this product. I have been very pleased with my experience.
