Pregnant:

Absolute Contraindication: FDA X FOR MIGRAINE PROPHYLAXIS, FDA D FOR EPILEPSY AND MANIA

Nursing:

Precaution: ONE CASE OF THROMBOCYTOPENIA REPORTED, MONITOR INFANT FOR ADVERSE EFFECTS

An adult over 60:

Precaution: (BEERS) REDUCED METAB/BINDING MAY REQUIRE LOWER DOSE;SEDATION RISK

Giving divalproex to a child under 12:

Relative Contraindication: INCREASED RISK OF SERIOUS OR FATAL HEPATOTOXICITY.
