From the WebMD Archives

There come times in every woman's life when it's time to change beauty products. Are you ready to upgrade your vanity with dermatologist-approved skin care products? We asked Erin Welch, MD, a dermatologist at Denver Dermatology Consultants, to share her favorites.

1. Gillette Venus Embrace Razor, $12.99

This razor features a moisture strip that helps reduce irritation and five blades instead of the usual two or three.

2. Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Redness Soothing Gentle Scrub, $6.99

This facial scrub has mild microbeads and salicylic acid to remove dead skin cells and open pores as well as calming aloe and chamomile extracts.

3. Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser, $10.99

Cetaphil is a good basic cleanser without ingredients like foaming agents and fragrances that can cause irritation.

4. Secret Clinical Strength Advanced Solid, $8.29

This deodorant offers prescription-strength wetness and odor protection and skin-soothing conditioners. Wait a few -minutes after shaving before applying to avoid stinging.

5. Eucerin Everyday Protection Face Lotion SPF 30, $8.99

This day cream deep-sixes UVA and UVB rays that cause burning, skin cancer, and wrinkles. Use a dab the size of two quarters to cover your face and neck.

6. RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream, $22.99

Retinol -- an over-the-counter form of topical vitamin A -- is a potent wrinkle-reducer. Start with just one pea-sized amount nightly; then, in about a month, if your skin isn't dry or irritated, double the dose.
