NEW YORK, Aug. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Medscape Education, the leading destination for continuous professional development, today announced that it has earned Joint Accreditation from three national institutions dedicated to promoting health care excellence. The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) accredited Medscape Education for its Continuing Medical Education (CME), Continuing Education (CE) and Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) programs that enhance and improve how interdisciplinary medical teams collaborate in the delivery of health care.

Medscape Education is already accredited with commendation by the ACCME and with distinction by the ANCC and the ACPE. The awarding of Joint Accreditation combines each of these existing accreditations for six years.

"The Joint Accreditation recognition is a reflection of Medscape Education's commitment and leadership in interprofessional education that supports knowledge, skills and collaboration across healthcare teams," said Jamie DeMaria, Senior Vice President, Medscape Education. "Medscape Education is proud of this renewed accreditation, and we look forward to continuing our work to provide the healthcare community with high-quality, on-demand medical education."

To achieve accreditation, Medscape Education was required to meet a set of rigorous criteria, evaluated through a demonstration of how its CME programs are designed, planned and developed to address medical education needs and clinical gaps in care delivery across the clinical team. Joint Accreditation establishes standards for education providers who deliver interdisciplinary CE to support collaborative care, which has been identified as a critical component of health care improvement.1 Medscape Education was also required to demonstrate how its CME/CE activities and educational formats enhance clinician knowledge, skills and performance, while addressing barriers to change.
