What should I Know Regarding Pregnancy, Nursing and Administering Valium to Children or the Elderly?

If you are pregnant

  • Not Recommended:

    • If you are nursing

  • Precaution: NOT RECOMMENDED: INFANT SEDATION, LETHARGY, FEEDING DIFFICULTY.

    • If you are an adult over 60

  • management or monitoring precaution: General-Increased risk of adverse psychiatric and paradoxical reaction. Limit to short term use. Limit use of other CNS active medications that increase fall risk including opioids. Neuro/Psych-Elderly have a much higher risk for sedation, depression, cognitive impairment and falls. Renal-Active metabolites are renally excreted. Use caution in renal impairment with initial oral dosing starting with 2 to 2.5 mg/day and titrate as tolerated.

    • Pediatric use

  • Severe Precaution: Not recommended in children under 6 months due to insufficient safety information.
