  • Precaution: BREASTFEEDING ACCEPTABLE DURING TREATMENT; MONITOR INFANT FOR RESP DEPRESSION
  • If you are an adult over 60

  • management or monitoring precaution: Pulmonary-DO NOT use in opioid intolerance. Increased risk of fatal respiratory depression due to altered pharmacokinetics. Monitor closely at initiation and dose titration and when giving with other drugs that cause respiratory depression. Consider naloxone Rx. Renal-Start with low dose for renal impairment. Neuro/Psych-Risk for confusion, delirium and falls. Avoid treatment with 3 or more CNS active agents. Cardiovascular-QT prolongation risk; syncope risk.
  • Pediatric use

  • Severe Precaution: Potential increased sensitivity to effects, adverse CNS effects and respiratory depression. Safety, effectiveness, and pharmacokinetics not established in pediatric patients. With any opioid, access to naloxone for emergency reversal can mitigate risk from accidental ingestion/overdose.
