What should I Know Regarding Pregnancy, Nursing and Administering Pimozide to Children or the Elderly?
If you are PREGNANT
- Only When Necessary: NON-TERATOGENIC COMPLICATIONS (RESP, GI,CNS) WITH EXPOSURE DURING 3RD TRIMESTER
If you are NURSING
- Precaution: MONITOR INFANT FOR EXTRAPYRAMIDAL EFFECTS
If you are an adult over 60
- management or monitoring precaution: Neuro/Psych-Adverse effects observed in elderly. Monitor for tardive dyskinesia since risk is higher in the elderly, particularly women. Increased risk of death in patients with senile dementia. May increase fall risk. Urogenital-adverse effects observed since drug is highly anticholinergic with risk for urinary retention. Cardiovascular-May prolong the QT-interval in patients with heart failure, bradyarrhythmias, hypokalemia, hypomagnesemia.
Giving Pimozide to a child under 12
- management or monitoring precaution: Limited information available age< 12 years. Use limited to Tourette's Disorder.
