ALICE LICHTENSTEIN: OK, well there's a lot going on with coconut oil.

I think it's important to remember that having a little bit of coconut is fine if you enjoy coconut, but when we talk about coconut oil, we're actually taking the oil out of the fruit, and that oil is very high in saturated fat.

And there's absolutely no reason to consume it-- particularly, to think it's any better than animal fat-- the other major sources of saturated fat.

But importantly, it's not considered a healthy fat equivalent to something like soybean oil or canola oil because it is high in saturated fat.
