What should I Know Regarding Pregnancy, Nursing and Administering Clozapine ODT to Children or the Elderly?
If you are PREGNANT
- Possibly Safe: NON-TERATOGENIC COMPLICATIONS (RESP, GI,CNS) WITH EXPOSURE DURING 3RD TRIMESTER
If you are NURSING
- Absolute Contraindication: NOT RECOMMENDED: POSSIBLE SEVERE HEMATOLOGIC ADVERSE EFFECTS.
If you are an adult over 60
- management or monitoring precaution: Neuro/Psych-Generally not recommended. Higher risk of tardive dyskinesia. May cause sedation, worsen cognitive impairment and increase fall risk. Increased risk of death in senile dementia. Cardiovascular-Risk of orthostatic hypotension and tachycardia. Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular risks may increase with hyperglycemia, lipid changes, weight gain. Gastrointestinal-May cause or worsen pre-existing constipation. Genitourinary-Best avoided in patients with urinary retention.
Giving Clozapine ODT to a child under 12
- management or monitoring precaution: Risk of severe neutropenia, seizure, cardiomyopathy, orthostatic hypotension, respiratory arrest. Safety and efficacy not established.
