What should I Know Regarding Pregnancy, Nursing and Administering Dexacorten Solution to Children or the Elderly?
If you are PREGNANT
- Only When Necessary: RISK OF OROFACIAL CLEFTS ASSOCIATED WITH CORTICOSTEROID USE IN 1ST TRIMESTER
If you are NURSING
- Precaution: OTHER CORTICOSTEROIDS EXCRETED IN TRACE AMOUNTS, POTENTIAL FOR ADV EFFECTS
If you are an adult over 60
- management or monitoring precaution: Cardiovascular-Caution in chronic heart failure patients due to sodium and water retention with glucocorticoid use. Endocrine-May cause hyperglycemia or worsen glucose control in diabetics. Longer term use may cause osteopenia or osteoporosis. Neuro/Psych-Avoid in older adults with or at high risk of delirium because of inducing or worsening delirium.
Giving Dexacorten Solution to a child under 12
- management or monitoring precaution: Risk of HPA-Axis suppression, growth inhibition. Monitor height and weight with chronic treatment.
