JOHN WHITE
Don, we had been cooking a couple of recipes today.

DON SALADINO
Yes.

JOHN WHITE
Trying to help people eat healthy. We've only got time for one more. What's it going to be?

DON SALADINO
This is something I do probably every single day. So--

JOHN WHITE
Every day.

[MUSIC PLAYING]
DON SALADINO
We're going to go in the fridge right now. We're going to see what I have left over.

JOHN WHITE
Yeah. All right, Don, I am going to check out and see what you have in here.

DON SALADINO
I've got some grass-fed steak here.

JOHN WHITE
OK.

DON SALADINO
This is Rice that I did have last night.

JOHN WHITE
OK.

DON SALADINO
I love jasmine rice with some dill. And we have some colors here. We're going to mix all this stuff. We're going to go with our protein, which is a grass-fed steak. Right here, we've got some colors that we're putting together. These are some sweet potatoes, some pepper, some onions. Right here, it's a beautiful grass-fed steak. We got some greens.

And I don't like to overthink this. So what I do is I'll throw a pan on the stove. I'll coat it with some olive oil. And I'll just mix everything in there. So now, we're going to dump a little bit. That's probably a good solid teaspoon there. I'm just going to lay the steak down. I like my steak like a medium.

I'm going to throw the sweet potatoes on now. I don't want to overcook the steak. We've got our rice on there. And the greens-- now, this is what I do. I'll throw a little top on it. This is one of my favorite meals to have. Because it's just-- it's delicious. I love getting all the flavors mixed together.

JOHN WHITE
All of these ingredients-- and there aren't a lot-- are going to have a healthy impact on my body.

DON SALADINO
The one thing that people aren't thinking about is satiation.

JOHN WHITE
Fancy word, what does that mean?

DON SALADINO
It's just staying full to where we're not craving junk at night. You wake up. You think you're having a healthy breakfast. You're nibbling throughout the day on healthy things like nuts or an apple. Or you have a lunch with a salad in it, a piece of chicken. But at the end of the day, when dinner comes around, you just haven't had enough calories in your day to support the amount of activity you're putting your body through.

And then it happens.

JOHN WHITE
What?

DON SALADINO
You sit down on the couch. You relax. You maybe just had your dinner. And then the cravings start kicking in. Because your body's smart. Calories is fuel for the body. And as soon as it recognizes it doesn't have enough fuel, then it starts sending off all these alarms. And then you're running into the fridge.

And then you're pulling out the ice cream and the chips. And you're doing these things because you're famished. So if we could frontload calories.

JOHN WHITE
And I saw ice cream and Don Saladino's freezer.

DON SALADINO
I have kids. I have kids. It's ready. And we're going to get all those colors onto the plate.

JOHN WHITE
That does look tasty.

DON SALADINO: Protein-packed, micronutrient-dense food. This is--

JOHN WHITE
The Don super charged bowl.

DON SALADINO
[INAUDIBLE] I'm eating this.

JOHN WHITE
OK.

DON SALADINO
Grab some steak.

JOHN WHITE
Mm. There you have it, some simple meals that anyone could do. Rethinking the concept of food is medicine, right? It's all about making that healthy choice. And it doesn't have to be hard. It can be easy.

DON SALADINO
Create your own bowl. If you have chicken, if you have turkey, if you have some leftover fish, salmon, this all works. Have fun with it. Serve yourself a healthy, nutritious meal.

JOHN WHITE
Absolutely. What you put in your mouth on a daily basis, over time, is what really impacts your health. So you want to make those changes today in terms of what you're eating.

Food is medicine. John White, Don Saladino.
